Senior Boys Football Championship Game
November 12, 2010
|
The Senior Boys Football Cardinals started off the season 0-3, but won their next two games in strong fashion to make the playoffs,
win their first three playoff games dominating St. Joseph 37-0, and beating defending champion St. Marcellinus 16-7, with strong
defence and a stellar running game. The Cardinals faced the St. Marguerite D'Youville Panthers in the championship game, in a foggy
Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.
After Aquinas opened the scoring with a Jordan Lynch field goal, the Panthers reeled off
23 straight points, primarily with a strong passing game, to go ahead 23-3
by the middle of the third quarter. But has they had done all year, the Cardinals clawed back, first with a long bomb from Jordan
Boswell to Jordan Nugent, capped off by a 3-yard plunge for a touchdown by Ryan Hector. Early in the 4th quarter, Manny Palmer swam
through the entire Panther line and blocked a punt, recovering it on the 3 yard line, with Jordan Boswell barreling in for a touchdown
run on the next play. But it was as close as the Cardinals would get, the the team ending up on the losing end of a 23-17 decision.
It was an entertaining, well-played game by both teams, and the crowd of close to 1000 from both school enthusiastically enjoyed the match.
And having a day out of school. |
