Remembrance Day Assembly
November 9, 2012
|
St. Thomas Aquinas remembers the sacrifice of Canadians in World War I and II, the Korean War, Afghanistan and numerous peacekeeping missions each year with
an assembly about soldiers, medical personnel and civilians involved in those wars.
This year focused on Vimy Ridge, a World War I battle in northern France, where primarily Canadian forces took the Ridge from the German troops.
A theme emphasized in the assembly is that war is not some grand adventure, but a duty that soldiers perform, which features both hours of boredom waiting for the next battle,
and bouts of total fear and terror among exploding bombs and gunfire. The war is never over for many soldiers after they come home.
Here are a few pictures from the assembly. |
