On Day 9, Dr. J toured around Lahaina to the historic Balwin House, the 1834 home that missionary and doctor Dwight Baldwin and his wife Charlotte Fowler took up. Reverend Baldwin was able to provide medicine to significantly
fight two epidemics in 1848-49, ingratiating himself with King Kamehameha III, who lived in Lahaina when it was the capital of Hawaii. The afternoon was sun, beach, water, reading and gelato.

Above: The Baldwin House, originally built in 1834, restored in the early 1960's to it's former spendour.
The Baldwins arrived in 1838, and were the second inhabitants of the stone part of the home, but added extra bedrooms later.
