Above: The Temple of Demeter, built completely from Naxian marble around 530 BC and one of the earliest Ionic temples. In the 6th century AD, the temple was largely demolished and a three-naved Christian basilica was built from the same stone on the site.

to 4 show the remnants of the 6th century BC Temple of Demeter, plus some new marble added in as well. #4 is an artist's rendition of the temple.

shows the nave of the Christian basilica built in the 6th century AD, which used stones from the original temple.

to 7 are views from the Temple.

is the main and only street in the village of Damalas, with a permanent population of 20 people.

is a 1850 grinder for olives to create olive oil, where the farmers (or sometimes donkeys) would manually move the grinder around in a circle.
