Puerto Plata
November 22, 2024

I took a morning tour up the Pico Isabel de Torres, a 2601 ft. (793 metres) high mountain on the south side of the city of Puerto Plata, the highest point of the Dominican Republic. At the top is a botanical garden and areas to hike there, great views of the city of Puerto Plata below, and the statue of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), built in 1975, a replica of the one in Rio de Janeiro.

Above: The jeep/truck that our tour group took up Pico Isabel de Torres.

1 shows Pico Isabel de Torres from the highway.

2 is an advertisement for the Cable cars up the mountain, which are currently under repair, so we took the truck/jeep up the mountain instead.

3 to 6 shows homes and buildings on the drive up the mountain, and a motorcycle and pickup truck ... no helmets, seatbelts or safety concerns.

7 is a cemetery at the base of Pico Isabel de Torres.
