Above: The caldera of Santorini, with Nea Kameni in the centre and Imerovigli and Skaros Rock to the left, an original site for one of the five Venetian castles from the 1200's.
Nea Kameni is still an active volcanic island with hot springs and trails, first created in 47 AD, and it has had regular fairly mild eruptions including 1707–1712, 1866–1870, 1925–1928 and 1939-1941, with the last small eruption happening in 1950.

1 and 2 show walking on the trail down the first hill/mountain.

3 shows a view of the caldera very close to the short stretch of highway to walk between the two hill/mountains.

4 and 5 show the donkeys and horses near the highway waiting for customers.

6 shows the very welcome food stand along the highway, between the two hill/mountains, where freshly squeezed orange juice hit the spot.

7 to 9 show views after leaving the highway and walking up the second hill/mountain.

10 shows Imeroviglia and Skaros Rock.
