Above: The remains of the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus. Construction began 6th century B.C., was stopped and started several times due to wars and lack of funds, and not completed until the 2nd century AD under Emperor Hadrian, about 638 years after the project was begun.
With 104 colossal columns, it was the largest temple in Greece. It fell into disuse in the 3rd century A.D. after being pillaged during a Barbarian invasion. Only 15 columns remain standing, the sixteenth having fallen in 1852 during a storm, where it still lies on the ground.

1, 4-5 and 7-8 show the remaining 15 columns of the originally 104 column Temple of Olympian Zeus.

2, 3 and 6 are ruins of buildings around the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
