Continuing in the Basilica di Santa Croce, note the front alterpiece from the 1300's. Picture five and six show Franciscan Friars and artisans working in the Scuola del Cuoio (Leather School), which create beautiful (but not cheap) soft, buttery leather jackets, bags and items for purchase. The panoramic above is by the Arno River, which separates the historic old town with hills and the Pitti Palace, home of the powerful Medici family, which ran the properous Tuscany for over 200 years. |
