Madeira Island
October 1, 2019

On Day 2, I took a very with humourous guide and driver Sebastiano on the east and northeast coast of Madeira Island. These pages cover the tour after arriving at the town of Santana. Santana was named after the Virgin Mary's mother, Saint Ana. We stopped here for lunch or in my case a snack (I enjoyed a couple of Portuguese tarts, which are called on Madeira Island, tarts), and spent an hour and half there. After that we drove back along the east coast of the island through Machico and Santa Cruz before arriving back in Funchal.

Above: Santana's City Hall.

1, 2 and 11 show Hydrangeas flowers, which bloom all over the island, starting in the spring and ending by September,
although a lot were still in bloom and thriving.

3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 show typical thatched roof homes that were used, especially in the north of the island,
and are still occasionally used although all these ones have been preserved for shops and tourist information.

7 is the front of Santana's City Hall.
