Above: The main port of Madeira, just outside Santa Cruz. Originally, agricultural products would leave and products from the mainland would arrive
in Funchal, but those operations were moved here, and only cruise ships, sailboats, whale watching ships and other tourist boats leave Funchal.

1 to 4 show the port area of Santa Cruz, and the rocky terrain nearby.
7 shows the Ilhas Desertas islands, currently uninhabited.
8 shows the upper crust Reid's Hotel, where dignataries such as Winston Churchill have previously stayed.
9 and 10 shows colourful Amaryllis Belladonna flowers in a tree near the Pestana Carlton.
