1 and 2 show the statue of the Pope built when Pope John Paul II visited Madeira in 1991, by the Funchal Cathedral, Sé Catedral de Nossa Senhora da Assunção (Our Lady of the Assumption).
4 show the statue of João Gonçalves Zarco, a Portuguese explorer who established settlements in 1425 and recognition of the Madeira Islands, and was appointed
first captain of Funchal.
6 is the Jesuit College Church of Funchal.
7 and 8 are in the Funchal Municipal Gardens including a statue of Simon Bolivar, who was a Venezuelan military and political leader who led what are currently

as El Libertador, or the Liberator of America. No idea why his statue is in Madeira.
