1 and 2 show the American Cemetery by the Panama Canal. About 5600 Americans lost their lives building the canal from 1903 to 1914. Over 22,000 French lost their lives
from 1881-1899 building the canal, and 12,000 more of them lost their lives building the railway. Most lives lost were due to malaria and yellow fever.
3 is the Mormon Church built near the canal, for the benefit of Americans who had moved there to work in the canal area.
4 All major Canadian banks have a presence in Panama, mainly to serve ex-pat Canadians who have moved to the country to live. Scotiabank was the first.
