Above: The Outer Court, with the East Colonnade on the right, and the First Pylon (a Pylon is a monumental gate to an Egyptian Temple).
1 and 2 show inside the West Colonnade, where Ahmed told us about the Egyptian Creation Myth.
3 is the face of the right side of the First Pylon, with Isis, the goddess of the magic, marriage, healing and protection on the left,
and her consort, the falcon-headed god Horus on the right, the god of the sky, kingship and power.
4 to 6 show the inner court and Second Pylon, entrance to the Temple of Isis. Isis was the mother of Horus in Egyptian mythology, the
goddess of magic and the ability to create and destroy life with her words. Picture #5 shows again, Isis on the left, Horus in the center,
and on the right, possibly Osiris, god of the underworld, Isis' husband and Horus' daddy.
7 and 8 show the first room of the temple of Isis with many columns. Hieroglyphs can consist of both letters for word, and symbols.
In #8, the symbol with the circle on top and cross below is the Ankh, which sympbolizes life or eternal life, which you'll see on many
temple walls and elsewhere. The hook like symbol is the Was Sceptor, which symbolizes power.
9 to 11 show hieroglyphs and pictures of gods and pharaohs on every surface of the Temple of Isis walls.
