Egypt: Day 4
September 19, 2022

Above: The Temple of Philae main complex, with First Pylon, inner Courtyard, Second Pylon and Temple of Isis.

1 shows Steve and other on the boat to Philae.

2 is a map of the Philae Temple complex on Agilkia Island.

3 is a column among many in the West Colonnade ... note again the dark part at the bottom of the column, where it was underwater after 1902.

4 and 5 is the face of the First Pylon monumental gate, the first shot partially underwater. You may ask why the faces are sometimes scraped off
on the Pylon and other parts of the temple complex ... the Romans and early Christian iconoclasts mutilated images that offended them. Horus
was often left untouched, because Christians respected the origin story of Horus to be similar to that of Jesus.

6 and 7 show the back of the First Pylon.

8 and 9 show on the Second Pylon, first Isis, then her son Horus.

10 to 13 show the columns inside the Temple of Isis.

14 is one example of hieroglyphs inside the Temple of Isis, these of letters and symbols ... for example on the upper right, the slithering snake is J
the reed symbol below an E, the squiggly line an N.
