The Iroquois lived along the St. Lawrence River for thousands of year. The Frence settled the area in 1673, but left in 1749.
After the American Revolutionary War in 1775, the "Loyalists", those persons still loyal to Britain needed a place to live outside the United States.
Prescott was surveyed by the British in 1783, and settled in 1787. By the early 1900's, the waterfront originally featured multiple industries
and railway lines, but today features a small boat harbour and parks and walkways for the public, as well as the St Lawrence Shakespeare Festival
theatre by the harbour. Former Aquinas teacher Jill Fokes retired and bought and has fixed up a stone home built in the 1800's, and invited me for a visit.
