Notice the guy trying to steal a cannonball, they are actually a bit too heavy to sneak out. Inside the blockhouse, a machine was designed to heat cannonballs, such that when they hit an enemy ship on the St. Lawrence River, it would catch on fire.

It wasn't just the British working to protect Prescott ... Hamilton Dibble Jessup lead the militia of locals, the "Prescott Volunteer Company" capturing the leader of the rebel forces at the Battle of the Windmill. After the 1837-1838 rebellions, defeated rebels snuck into the U.S. to hide, forming Hunters' Lodges of "patriots". In 1838 these rebels and supporters attempted to invade Canada. British soldiers, the American army and these local militia fought at the Battle of Windmill, thwarting the Hunter invasion.
